High priority is given to the use of Information Technology at Queen of Apostles School. Information Technology offers exciting and challenging ways of enhancing student learning.
IT tools such as 1:1 iPads focus teaching and stimulate learning interaction in the classroom which in turn, can improve student understanding and personal productivity. At Queen of Apostles School, we have a 1:1 iPad Program operating in Years 1-6.
The 1:1 program has an emphasis on the iPad as a learning tool to foster and promote students with their capability to collaborate, share information, share experiences, work across the domains of our curriculum and to lead students to be able to be self-directed in their learning. The program is supported by teachers who have skills and expertise in understanding the curriculum that is to be covered and who are able to ensure that this curriculum is delivered in a manner that engages every child.
Our major responsibility in the next few years is not only to provide all students with an appropriate level of access to these tools but also to change to new and effective teaching and learning environment that incorporates these new technologies.
ROBOTICS
We have an extensive Robotics Program throughout Kindy – Year 6. As a future-focused school, it is important for us to be able to provide our students with the opportunities to develop the programming and coding skills that will set them up for their future. The West Australian Curriculum has a strong focus on Digital Technologies, and our emphasis on Robotics throughout the school is one of the main ways we address this curriculum area.
Throughout the school, we have the following Robotics resources that are utilised each year as part of the digital technologies curriculum:
Kindy – Year 2: BeeBots
Year 3 and 4: Lego WeDo 2.0, Spheros
Year 5 and 6: Microbits/Lego EV3 Mindstorms
FLEXIBLE LEARNING SPACES
At Queen of Apostles School, we endeavour to provide learning spaces that enhance and transform student learning, creating collaborative learning spaces where students are able to develop their creativity. This flexible environment allows students to build independent learning behaviours where they come to understand themselves as learners and how they learn best.
Classrooms have been re-designed to cater for all students in order to most effectively assist them to achieve their full potential when learning within the classroom. As such, our classrooms include spaces for:
